Fashion Fund Winner

CHRISTOPHER KANE has won the 2011 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. The Scottish designer beat off stiff competition - from Osman Yousefzada, Richard Nicoll, Peter Pilotto, Jonathan Saunders, menswear designer Patrick Grant of E Tautz and shoe designers Nicholas Kirkwood and Charlotte Dellal of Charlotte Olympia - for the prize, which comprises a cash payout of £200,000 as well as business mentoring from some of the fashion industry's biggest hitters.
"I am delighted that Christopher has won the second BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund Award," Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman said. "The shortlist was very strong and we were impressed by the level of talent which was inspiring. Christopher and Tammy have worked immensely hard and it is wonderful to see a designer with his vision and commitment rewarded."
Kane, who designs the Versus collection with Donatella Versace as well as his eponymous line, first caught our eye when he burst on to the fashion scene with his Central Saint Martins MA graduate collection in February 2006. By September of the same year, noted fashion editors packed the venue - even sitting on the stairs - to catch the debut on-schedule collection of his label, set up with his sister Tammy, as it took to the London Fashion Week catwalk. Since then, he has become famous for each one of his shows having a defining characteristic, allowing fashion watchers to reference each by a different name: the checked one; the floral leather one; the sequin one; the denim one; the jungle one.
